Update, Sept. 17:
Dallas police now say Jose Portillo has been charged in a Sept. 7 rape on Martel Avenue in — the same day he’s accused of robbing and killing a Richardson man.
Portillo, 22, is being held in the Dallas County Jail on charges of capital murder, aggravated robbery, burglary of a habitation and, now, aggravated sexual assault. He’s also in the country illegally, according to Dallas County records.
His bail is set at $1.25 million.

A 22-year-old man accused in a Richardson robbery-slaying along with two other men is also a suspect in a recent M Streets rape that occurred the same day, authorities say.
Jose Portillo of Richardson faces a charge of capital murder in the September 7 death of Jimmy Donawho, 63. He also faces a charge of aggravated robbery and burglary for unrelated offenses. Dallas police have not yet filed a sexual assault case against him, but are expected to do so soon.

Two other men, Omar Lima Lopez, 30, and Saul Montero-Mata, 42, are being held on a charge of capital murder of Donawho.
Authorities say Portillo knew Donawho through members of his family and Portillo had been to Donawho’s home for a birthday party.
In the early afternoon of Sept. 7, Donawho was stabbed to death in his Richardson apartment. A Czech-made gun, jewelry, his wallet, a phone and other property was taken during the robbery.
Later that day, authorities say a man knocked on a woman’s door on Martel Avenue in Dallas. He forced his way into her apartment at gunpoint. The woman told police that he sexually assaulted her twice and tied her up. She said he drank a beer from her refrigerator and took her cell phone.
